Description
Join Tour Leader, Dave Hunt on the Annual Memorial Ride. It is a ‘B-C’ relaxed group ride in memory of our Freewheeler builders. We owe a great deal to those who came before us and we are grateful to honour their memories.
Jane Hughes and Pat Dumphy were pioneers in the early years of cycling. They were tireless in promoting cycling in Niagara, and Jane through her position on Regional Council lobbied for the creation of the Greater Niagara Circle Route.
Bill Stewart was a co-founder of the Freewheelers, along with his wife Virginia. They moved here from the prairies in 1991 and when they didn’t find a bike club to ride with, they invited other cyclists to join them on rides. When the numbers grew, they set up the organization, started the newsletters, and the rest is history.
Tom Bailey was the driving force behind the creation of many of our current cue sheets and maps. He dedicated many years to the development of new routes and was a wonderful good will ambassador for the Freewheelers, getting to know new members and leading hundreds of rides.
