Description

Ad Hoc Port Dover to Mount Pleasant

Join Tour Leaders, John & Els Swart on a gravel ride from Port Dover to Waterford (40 km round trip) or Port Dover to Mount Pleasant (80 km round trip) . Choose the distance you would like to ride. We’ll all start the ‘B’ paced ride together, and Els will offer the option of heading back at Waterford. John will continue on to Mount Pleasant. The rides will be on one of Ontario’s most popular rail trails – the LE&N Trail, which was the Lake Erie & Northern Electric Railway before it was repurposed. These are linear out-and-back rides.

Date:  Sunday, August 13

Start Time: 9:30 am

Start Location: Lions Silver Lake Park (washrooms available), 320 St Patrick Street, Port Dover

Distance:  40 or 80 km

Equipment: Any road or hybrid/touring bike will do as long as the tires are suitable. The rail trail is quite hard packed, and there are some paved sections, so 700 x 32c tires or wider will work.  (700 x 28c might work if you’re a confident rider.)

Cue Sheet/Map/Ride with GPS: This is designated as a Group Ride. The RWGPS link and paper map will be available to those on the ride.

Pace and Skill Level: Rated B4. There will be regrouping as necessary, as well as viewing and snack stops along the route. Remember that rail trail riding takes more effort than road riding. If you have any concerns about the pace, my contact information is below.

Lunch/Snacks 40 km Ride: After a snack or lunch stop in Waterford, you will return to Port Dover.

Lunch/Snacks 80 km Ride: After a  snack or lunch stop in Mount Pleasant, you will return to Port Dover.

Weather: These trails are quite weatherproof, so unless we have heavy rain on the day of the ride, it should be a go.
