Description
Join Tour Leader, John Swart on a ‘B’ pace gravel ride from Port Dover to Mount Pleasant and return. We’ll ride on one of Ontario’s most popular rail trails – the LE&N Trail – as it passes through Port Dover, Simcoe, Waterford, Scotland and on to Mount Pleasant. We’ll avoid the last few kms into Brantford. The L&N Trail was the Lake Erie & Northern Electric Railway before it was repurposed.
Date: Saturday, July 15
Start Time: 9:30 am
Start Location: Lions Silver Lake Park (washrooms available), 320 St Patrick Street, Port Dover
Distance: 75 km. This is a linear out-and-back ride. Anyone feeling the need to turn around at any time (e.g. Waterford) can advise the Tour Leader that they are leaving the ride and returning to Port Dover.
Equipment: Any road or hybrid/touring bike will do as long as the tires are suitable. The rail trail is quite hard packed, and there are some paved sections, so 700 x 32c tires or wider will work. (700 x 28c might work if you’re a confident rider.)
Cue Sheet/Map/Ride with GPS: This is designated as a Group Ride. The RWGPS link and paper map will be available to those on the ride.
Pace and Skill Level: Rated B4. There will be regrouping as necessary, as well as viewing and snack stops along the route. Remember that rail trail riding takes more effort than road riding. If you have any concerns about pace, my contact information is below.
Lunch/Snacks: Mount Pleasant, at the northern turn-around point of the ride, has two restaurants. Waterford also has restaurants and a variety store. However, capacity on a sunny Saturday is an unknown, so please bring whatever drinks and snacks you’ll need to stay nourished during the ride just in case.
Weather: These trails are quite weatherproof, so unless we have heavy rain on the day of the ride, it should be a go.
If you plan to attend or have any questions, please contact John Swart.
