The ferry is running!

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the following protocols have been put in place for the 2020 season:

  • Riders are required to wear a mask while on the ferry to utilize capacity to a maximum of 10 riders. Hand sanitizer will be provided upon boarding.
  • If you are showing symptoms or have come in contact with anyone with COVID-19, it’s asked you not ride the ferry.
  • If a rider cannot wear a mask, the service will accommodate two riders per trip to ensure physical distancing can be maintained.
  • Gate access on both sides of the Welland Canal will be closed to ensure that physical distancing is maintained for riders that will be disembarking from their ride.
  • An attendant will be present during peak hours to organize riders to ensure protocols are being adhered to and assist with timely service.
  • Benches and railings will be sanitized by ferry staff after each use.

The Port Robinson Ferry, “Bridge-it”, is the only ferry service on the Welland Canal. The ferry has shuttled people across the Welland Canal since a laker collided with and destroyed the bridge to the hamlet in the 1970s. The service provides a vital link for a growing number of cyclists and is a charming and memorable piece of Niagara’s cycling experience.
