Description

Ad Hoc Paris

Join Tour Leader, John Swart on a ‘B’ pace gravel ride that includes Paris, Harrisburg, and Richwood and return via rail trails, gravel, and paved roads. If you’ve never been to this rolling agricultural area, you’ll be surprised by its subtle beauty, and we’ll ride the banks of the Grand and Nith rivers too.

Date:  Saturday, June 10, 2023

Start Time: 10 am

Start Location:  Penman’s Dam Park, Country Road 51, Paris (at corner of Willow and Elm Streets)

Distance:  88 km. We’ll head north from Paris along the Grand River via the Paris-Cambridge Rail Trail, then east to Harrisburg on a mix of gravel and paved country roads, returning to Glen Morris. More mixed gravel and paved roads will take us west of the Grand River and back into Paris.

Equipment: Any road or touring bike will do as long as the tires are suitable. The rail trail and gravel sections are quite hard packed, so 700 x 32c tires or wider will work.  My 700 x 37c’s were perfect on the scouting trip.

Group Ride: This is designated as a Group Ride. The RWGPS link and paper map will be available to those on the ride.

Pace and Skill Level: Rated B4 with approximately 650 metres of climbing. We’ll will ride at the higher end of ‘B’ pacing. This route has numerous hills that are generally not steep and overly long, and of course the downhills are wonderful. There will be regrouping as necessary after hills, as well as viewing stops along the route.  If you have any concerns about the hills or pace, my contact information is below.

Lunch/Snacks: This is rural countryside and there are no restaurants. The only variety store is at km 15, so please bring whatever lunch, drinks and snacks you will need for the day.

Weather: These trails are quite weatherproof, so unless we have heavy rain on the day of the ride, it should be a go.

If you have any questions or plan to attend, please contact John Swart
