Admired for her ability to connect with people and her love of nature
Pat Paolone passed away on June 17, 2026 at Hospice Niagara in Welland. She had been introduced to the Freewheelers through her partner Tom Bailey, another active Freewheeler member and ‘builder’ who predeceased her (March 17, 2018). Together they took us on many wonderful rides throughout Niagara, especially in the Pelham area.
Pat was actively involved in the Club on rides, attending and helping out at special events, and serving on the Executive as Treasurer for four years (2008-9 and 2012-13). She was a ‘people person’ who loved meeting and getting to know people of all ages. One Freewheeler remarked that whenever she came to a ride, Pat immediately came over to greet her. When it came to cycling etiquette, Pat was a stickler for rules. On bike rides, when ‘car back’ was called out you had better move over!
Pat was also an avid outdoors person. She loved being in nature every day regardless of the weather. She hiked, biked, and would snowshoe and cross country ski in the winter. Caring for her lawn, trees and flowers brought her great joy. And to finish off the day, nothing beat a good game of Skip-Bo.
Pat will be missed by her family, her Freewheeler family and the numerous friends she made throughout her lifetime.
